Our client was importing £70,000 worth of perfumes from Germany to the UK.

Whilst in transit the lorry driver stopped for a sleeping break at services near the Dartford crossing in Kent. Whilst asleep, the side of the lorry was stripped and goods stolen.

GPS notified the client’s insurer immediately. The insurer paid out a loss of £70,000 to the client and also appointed a private investigator to try and recover the stolen goods which were branded and quite specific. The investigation company followed the sale of goods on eBay for a year and then caught the seller. The case was later taken to Chelmsford crown court and the insurer was able to recover the cost of the claim. The client’s claim history was therefore minimised.
